C’s Swap meet at Mathews
Harley Davidson.
Last month on March 16 C’s
had our swap meet . The weather was a little iffy. Donn Donnelly came down
from Oakhurst and said it was snowing up there. We didn’t have a lot of
sellers but many members came by to check out all of the “stuff” for sale.
Mathews likes us having the swap-meet there because when people can’t find
what they want out there they come inside and buy stuff. I guess if you
really want to find or sell stuff locally you need to go to Hanford.
Central Valley Crusiers Bike
Breakout.
On Saturday 23 the Valley
Cruisers had their Bike Breakout at Clawson’s. Unfortunately the weather
didn’t cooperate with them either and their event got rained on. I rode
over there around noon and got sprinkled on. It continued to drizzle for
another hour . As you can imagine there were few bike on display. In the
“classic” class 6 of the 7 bikes were C’s people.
Dave Gearhart, Jon Martino,
Mike Middleton, showed bikes and I Can’t remember the others now. (They
say your memory is the first thing to go.) Best bike in the classic group
was a Harley Panhead that was very nice. In a cruiser show it deserved
first place, in my opinion.
With the rain
coming down the show wound up early just about the time the time the rain
quit and the sun came out. I hope they do it again and the weather is better.
D & D Bike Barn Bikefest.
On April 6 D & D bike
barn had their 10th annual Bikefest. There were several interesting bikes
on display. One was a Kawasaki motocrosser from the seventies with just
a few miles on it. The owner was in a car wreck and never rode it. Another
bike with only 600 miles was a Wards Riverside. In reality it was a Benelli
260. It was in very good condition except the petcocks that leaked a steady
stream when turned on. Curt Fornier had a James Moto-crosser from England
made in the mid 50‘s. It used a Villers 250 engine. He had just bought
it and got it running for the first time at the show.
One bike that delighted
the crowd was a “Cushman” scooter. Very little was left of the original
bike. In place of the stock motor was a v-twin Brigs and Stratton engine
that sounded just like a Harley Davidson.
Several people stepped
up to fill the shoes of Don Roofs and made Chili and other goodies. One
guy brought a deep fryer and made corndogs and French-fries, another made
chilidogs. I had to leave at 4 pm and was stuffed. I’m sure there was plenty
of food for the rest of the weekend.
Goodies Given Away at
C’s March Meeting!
At the March meeting C’s
gave away over 30 items in the monthly 50/50 raffle. Items were as small
as little pins commemorating Honda’s 50 years in business. Several posters
were given away some were of factory racers. others were of bikes or events.
We also gave away some t-shirts. with a variety of marques on them. Because
we had more to offer we raised 75 bucks for the winner of the 50/50 pot.
Bob Miller won and donated it back to the club.
Mark Fletcher
brought his just finished Honda 305 scrambler. It fired right up and purred
like a kitten. this bike took several years of spare time work to get completed.
George Copland, Phil Lips, and Bob Miller worked on it along with Caps
doing the powder coating.
If you have
a bike you would like to share with fellow bike nuts bring it along or
give me Bob Miller a call.
Hopefully next
month we will be back on the deck outside. Now that the weather is better
and daylight savings time has arrived it should be more fun out there.
Chuck Coffman to lead April
breakfast ride.
On April 21 Chuck Coffman
will lead a ride toward Kings Canyon. The ride will start at 8 am. at the
Chevron station at the corner of Clovis Ave. and Kings Canyon. the ride
will go from there to Kingsburg and Katy’s restaurant for Swedish Pancakes.
If you haven't had Swedish pancakes Chuck guarantees they are special!
After we have
tanked up we will make our way along the back roads toward Kings Canyon
through Badger. There is a stretch of road called “Hogs Back Ridge” that
is a bikers dream to ride and Chuck is going to take us there. We will
head back towards Dunlap on the back roads and from there make our way
through Wonder Valley to check out the wild flowers. If you are not familiar
with Wonder Valley it is famous for the abundant wild flowers growing there.
Come to the
April meeting and we will have a map of the route.
Vintage Days West April
26-28
C’s members are planning
to attend the races at Vintage Days West held at Sears Point. Bring a bike
to show, race, or just ride around. the races are spread out and a pit
bike is great for commuting from the pits up to the motocross area.
The roads around Sears point are great. You might want to join Cycle Worlds
rolling concours. Just look out for the people visiting the wineries. .
There is more info in the April issue of Cycle World. Cycle Gear on Blackstone
is suppose to have 10 dollar off discount coupons.
Entry forms for Dan Rouit’s
Open House trickling in.
I’ve started to get a few
entry forms back in for the show at Dan Rouit’s
open house. Work has begun
on the plaques and they are coming along nicely. To help pay for the plaques
C’s is going to have a silent auction table. Some items have been donated
but we can always use more. If you or your business have an item to donate
call us so we can plan for it. Any left over money will go to the museum.
Larry Koop will be calling members to invite them to show. If you do not
hear from him by May first please call me at 447-0795 if you want to get
a bike or two in the show. entry forms need to be back by May 10 to give
me time to get the plaques done.
C’s will also
have a clean up day at the museum on Saturday May 11. Come by and help
spiff up the place. If 4 or 5 guys come by and help we can get a lot done
in a two hours. plan on arriving by 10 am. and quitting at noon.
It looks like
C’s will host the Sunday morning ride to the open house this year. Please
call me if you would like to help lay out the route on this ride. We will
again start from the traditional starting place at the Kountry Kitchen
at Herndon and Cedar. A leisure trip through the foothills starting around
9 am. If you have a good idea for the route come to the next meeting.
T-shirts; Time to order
Several people have been
asking when we are going to make more t-shirts. Now is the time to order.
The bad news is the prices have gone up slightly. Short sleeve shirts will
run 12 bucks. Long sleeve shirts will be 16 bucks. The good news is that
there is more selection of colors. I am going to look into the cost of
sweatshirts if any one is interested?
